The diagram

A single graph — 915 nodes, 1655 links — set out in five views that share the same identifiers and the same state. No view draws more than a hundred or so nodes at a time.

Click a node to open its record, drag to move the plate, scroll or pinch to zoom. From the keyboard: Tab to enter the diagram, the arrow keys to move around, Enter to open, Esc to close.

What each view shows, and in what order to read them

The five views share the same nodes and the same state: moving from one to another does not change the graph, only the angle. The reading order follows the argument — the atlas lays out the terrain, the chain unfolds the reasoning, the circuit goes down into the monetary mechanics, the innovations state what the book contributes, the evidence shows what it rests on.

Atlas
The entry point: the thematic blocks, without a graph
Chain
The logical path: externalities, deficit, completenesses, functions, institutions, instruments
Monetary circuit
The S0–S6 classes, the transmission mechanisms and the leakages
Innovations
The contributions of the book, grouped by family
Cited sources
External references, by type and by weight

Help?

First steps, in thirty seconds
  1. The nine cards of the atlas are the blocks of the argument: click one to see what it holds.
  2. The five buttons above change the angle, never the graph: chain, circuit, innovations, sources.
  3. A clicked node opens its card on the right; Escape closes it; the wheel zooms; “Recentre” brings everything back into view.
  4. Hue says the family, shape the subtype, size the weight; a dotted line is an inferred link.

On a small screen, the plate is cramped: the same content as a table reads better.

Click a node to open its card: its fields, its links and the passage of the book that defines it.

Hue encodes the family of the node, its shape the sub-type, its size its weight. A solid line marks a link the book declares, a dotted line a link inferred by the scripts.

Only the types present in the current view are listed; every type appears in the diagram as text.

  • Legal instruments — 35

Filter and search

This search covers the nodes of the diagram. To search the text of the book, use the “Search the book” field at the foot of the page.

By default, all types are shown. Ticking a box restricts the display to that type.

Show only these types

The diagram as text

The diagram is rendered as SVG: every node exists in the accessibility tree. The table below gives the nodes of the entry view; the complete text equivalent, for the 915 nodes and their neighbours, sits on a dedicated page so as not to treble the weight of this one.

The diagram as text

The table is wider than the screen: drag it sideways.

The 7+3 architecture, in one diagram

Seven single-mandate institutions form the columns; the frieze carries the common taxonomy of externalities, the plinth the three instruments on which the whole rests.

How to read this image: each column is an institution that does one thing only. Follow the columns from left to right, in the order a case file crosses them. The frieze at the top classifies harms; the base carries the three instruments.

The Temple of Carthage — the 7+3 architecture Seven single-mandate institutions form the columns of a temple: measuring, rating, pricing, adjusting at the border, financing, adjudicating, certifying. The upper frieze carries the common taxonomy of externalities; the plinth carries the Carthage Charter, which founds and legitimises the whole. Ask the book

The index covers the whole book. The search accepts a question in English or in French. The summary, when you ask for it, is produced by an artificial intelligence from the cited passages only: read the notice.
