You are conversing with an artificial intelligence
The assistant on this site is software. It is not the author of the book, it is not a researcher, and it is not an authority: it is a language model that answers from a closed corpus.
What the assistant does
- It finds, within the book, the passages that answer your question, and refers you to the exact section, page or table.
- It restates these passages in plain language when the original wording is technical.
- It directs you to the diagram view, the reference or the annex that deals with the subject.
What it does not do
- It gives no legal, tax or financial advice, whether general or personalised.
- It passes no judgement on a named person, a company or a government.
- It produces no figure that does not appear in the book, and recalculates nothing.
- It retains nothing about you from one question to the next.
On which corpus
The corpus is closed and explicit: the book The Humanity Compact in its published editions, its annexes, and the derived data that feed this site — the argument graph, the section structure, the bibliography. Nothing else: neither the web, nor the model’s general memory, nor any third-party document base.
Outside this corpus, the assistant is built to refuse. It answers that the information is not in the book, and stops there. A model that prefers a plausible answer to an admission of ignorance is precisely what has cost more than one system its public demonstration: refusal is a function here, not a failure.
Where your questions go
The assistant does not run on this server. Your question is passed to a third-party provider, which operates the model and returns the answer. That transfer is the only moment when anything you have written leaves this site.
Provider: Google (Gemini API, gemini-2.5-flash model)
- Only the question is transmitted: not your name, not your address, not your previous questions.
- The provider is bound by a data-processing agreement that forbids it from reusing your questions to train its models.
- If the processing takes place outside the European Union, it relies on standard contractual clauses and the corresponding impact assessment.
- Do not write in this field what you would not write in an email to a third party: it is the simplest precaution, and it is yours to take.
Who answers for what is written
Editorial responsibility for this site rests with its author, Nizar Yaïche, and it is not delegated to software. An answer from the assistant does not bind the book: it is a paraphrase of it, produced by a machine that can be wrong, omit a nuance or reverse a conclusion.
Where an answer from the assistant diverges from the text of the book, the text of the book is authoritative, and it alone is citable. An answer from the assistant is not a source — no more here than anywhere else.
An answer that is false, tendentious or off-topic is a defect of the site: report it to nizar.yaiche@ystrat.com, copying out the question asked.
What this notice applies
| Text | What it requires | What this site does |
|---|---|---|
| Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 — AI Act, Art. 50(1) | Inform the person that they are interacting with an AI system, clearly and distinctly, and no later than the first interaction. | This page, plus a permanent notice beside the input field. Applicable since 2 August 2026: the deadline has been reached. |
| Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 — AI Act, Chapter IV | A system intended to interact with natural persons falls under “limited risk” and its transparency obligations alone — not under the high-risk regime. | The assistant is classed as “limited risk” in the site’s compliance documentation. It rates no one, decides nothing and accesses no profile. |
| Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 — AI Act, Art. 50(4) | A text generated by an AI and intended to inform the public must be flagged as such, unless it has undergone substantial human editorial review before publication. | No answer from the assistant is republished as a page of the site. Were that to change, the page would carry the notice, or the record of its review. |
| Regulation (EU) 2016/679 — GDPR, Art. 13(1)(e) | Inform the person of the recipients of their data. | Your question is passed to the model provider named above. No other recipient. The service that calls it retains no question: it keeps only counters, for its usage limits. |
| Regulation (EU) 2016/679 — GDPR, Art. 5(1)(c) and 28 | Minimise the data transmitted; govern the processor by a written contract. | Only the question is sent. Neither your address, nor your identity, nor the history of your questions is attached. The data-processing agreement is signed before any deployment. |
