Contribution Licence Agreement
A short text, to be accepted once, before the first contribution.
The text of the agreement
By proposing a contribution to this repository, and by carrying the acceptance line below in your commit message or at the end of your email, you certify the following.
- 1. Origin
- The contribution is your own work; or else it is drawn from a source that you cite and that you have the right to cite. In either case, you hold the rights required to submit it, and nothing prevents you from doing so — no contract, no employer, no confidentiality obligation.
- 2. Licence
- You retain copyright in your contribution. You grant the author of the book a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable licence to reproduce, publish, translate, adapt and distribute it, on this site and in the editions of the book, under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). Non-exclusive means what it says: you remain free to republish your contribution wherever you wish, without having to ask anyone for anything.
- 3. Publicity
- You understand that your contribution, the name under which you sign it and the history of its revisions are public, and will remain so. The history of a repository is not rewritten.
- 4. Attribution
- Your name, your affiliation and, if you provide one, your ORCID identifier appear on the contributors page and in the repository history, alongside what you contributed.
- 5. Veracity
- The facts you put forward are, to your knowledge, accurate, and each rests on a publicly verifiable source that you cite. You include nothing you know to be defamatory, nothing that calls a named person into question, nothing covered by a duty of confidentiality.
- 6. Decision
- The author of the book remains the sole judge of what is published, and may refuse a contribution, ask for it to be modified before publication, or withdraw it afterwards. Nothing in this agreement creates an obligation to publish.
This agreement is modelled on the Developer Certificate of Origin (version 1.1, The Linux Foundation), whose principle it adopts: a certificate of origin that you sign yourself, with no form to return and no handwritten signature. It adds to it the licence grant that a certificate of origin, on its own, does not give.
How to accept it
Copy this line, with your name and your address, at the end of the commit message — or at the end of the email if you do not use git. Nothing else is required.
Accord-de-contribution: v1 (Prénom Nom <adresse@exemple.org>)
A contribution that does not carry this line is not refused: it waits. Acceptance is asked of you once, and then holds for your subsequent contributions.
What the licence allows a reader to do
The Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence allows anyone to share and adapt the text, including for commercial purposes, on the sole condition that they credit you and indicate the changes made. It is the licence of the book itself: contributions and the text that receives them thus fall under the same regime, which prevents a published page from being subject to two incompatible licences.
The full text of the licence is published by Creative Commons: creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode.fr.
Withdrawal
You may ask at any time for your name to be removed from the contributors page, and for your contributions not yet published to remain unpublished. A licence granted on a text already published is, however, irrevocable — this is what allows a reader to cite this site without fearing that the page will disappear beneath their reference. Requests are made to nizar.yaiche@ystrat.com.
